沅水流域是屈原流放之地，人文山水钟灵毓秀，名人辈出，晚清吴大廷就是其中一位佼佼者。他主持福建盐政，功绩卓著，晚年操练水师，对晚清水师初期发展功不可没。在台湾任上处理列强寻衅滋事，在处理天津教案、四明公所法人滋事案等，立场坚定，不畏不屈。他廉洁勤政，还勤于著述，有《小酉腴山馆文抄》九卷，《集外文》四卷，《小酉腴山馆诗抄》八卷等，诗歌有阳刚之气，其散文成就尤为突出。%Yuan river basin is the place where Qu Yuan was exiled and it is also the place where talents gathered . He acquired a great achievement over salt management in Fujiang Province , made great contributions for the establishment of the late Qing Navy , and combated with pirates in Taiwan . He sticked to his principles and never surrendered when dealing with Tianjing church case and Siming Hall troubling case . Wu Dating was not only an honest and upright officer but also a litterateur and diligent in writing , like The Ninth Volume Articles of Xiao Youyu Mountain Museum , The Fourth Volume of Outside Corpus and The Eighth Volume Poems of Xiao Youyu Mountain Museum . His poetry is vigorous and forceful and his prose is particularly prominent .
