仫佬族民歌的分类与民歌本身的内涵和功能是密切相关的。在以往仫佬族民歌分类研究的基础上，以“约定俗成”为基本原则，辅以概括性与兼容性操作准则，可将仫佬族民歌划分／统归为“古条”、“随口答”、“口风”三大类。不同类型仫佬民歌各有其丰富的内涵和功能：“古条”蕴藏着仫佬族杂糅的历史观念、成熟的伦理观念和朴素的自然观念，“随口答”反映了仫佬族丰富的民俗礼仪和真实的情感思绪，“口风”折射了仫佬族鲜明的褒贬观念和积极的民族性格。%The classification of Mulao folk songs are closely related to their meanings and functions. Basedon the classification of Mulao folk songs and the basic principle“convention”, and supplemented by an operating guidelines of generalization and compatibility, Mulao folk songs can be divided / grouped into these three categories: ancient bars, freely answer and breeze, which have their respective meanings and functions. “Ancient bars”bears the complicated concept of the history, the mature concept of ethics, and the simple concept of nature, and“freely answer” reflects the rich etiquette of the Mulao nationality and real emotional thoughts while“breeze” reflects the clear concepts of distinctive judgment and positive national characteristics.
