Abstract: This Paper presents a new method for automatic reading of pressure gauges with pointers. A CCD camera is used to acquire the dial image of a calibraed pressure gauge,then the readings are calculated according to the relative position of pointer with respect to raduat ions,determined by an image processing,suitable not only for the automatic reading of pressure gauges with pointers, but also for other kinds of gauges with ponters. This image processing has a reading error of less than ±0.3% and takes no nore than 3 seconds at each calibrating point. Hough Transform (HT) is adopted to make the algorithm suitable for real-time processing.
