High resistance and yieldability of the support are the key factors to guarantee the stability of the roadway in soft strata. Poor loading condition will severely limit the supporting capacity of the supports in soft strata. Support backfilling, however can enable the supports to be loaded in an early stage and uniformly, resulting in therefore great rise of the working resistance of the supports and hence effective control of the large deformation of the roadway's surrounding rocks.
