Multidisciplinary management of hepatobiliary tumors in the era of precision medicine

Hepatobiliary tumor(HBT),one of the leading causes of cancer deaths globally,is more frequent in East Asia including China[1].HBT includes liver cancer,cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer.HBT burden varies markedly by gender and geographic region due to the exposure of risk factors.Majority of the hepatocellular carcinomas are associated with hepatitis B-type virus infection[2],and approximate 70%patients were male in China.Other risk factors include infections(hepatitis C virus),aflatoxins,flukes in endemic areas,behavioral factors(alcohol,tobacco),metabolic factors(diabetes,obesity)and congenital disease(bile duct cyst).The pathogenesis of HBTs are complex and HBTs possess high-level tumor heterogeneity(both intra-and intertumor)[3,4],it is important to conduct a comprehensive assessment for every patient before making decision in treatment,which needs multidisciplinary management efforts.
