Autoimmunity to ocular antigens is assumed to play a major role in the pathogenesis of many intraocular inflammatory conditions or uveitis in humans This notion is based on the fact that immunization with different components of ocular tissue may cause a disease in animals which resembles certain uveitis in various aspects.
