<正> Pupillary constriction occurs with intravenousadministration of opioids such as sufentanil. However, few studies have investigated the pupillaryeffects of intrathecal(IT)sufentanil. It has previouslybeen demonstrated that the cephalad spread within thecerebrospinal fluid of IT sufentanil results in sideeffects. There are two principal findings of the presentstudy:(1)spinal sufentanil combined with low-dose ofbupivacaine in patients with lower abdominal or lowerextremity procedures induces a dose-dependent pupillaryconstriction that is far more sensitive than othercentrally-mediated side effects;(2)the pupillary effect ofIT sufentanil correlates closely with the adequacy ofspinal anesthesia.
