The basic characters of the sodium layer density at a low-latitude location (Haikou, China, 20°N, 110°E) are described from analysis of sodium lidar observation data. A Nd:YAG laser pumped dye laser is used to generate the probing beam. The wavelength of the dye laser is set to 589 nm by a sodium fluorescence cell. The energy and divergence of the beam are about 42 mJ and 1mrad, respectively. The repetition rate of Nd:YAG laser is 30 Hz. The backscattered fluorescence photons from the sodium layer are collected by a telescope with a 1000 mm diameter primary mirror. A sodium layer density profile of upper atmosphere is derived from lidar files collected during the night of 4 May 2010 in Haikou, China. In this paper, the relative density and the absolute one for the sodium layer profile are studied. This result, shows a good correlation with that reported by rnBeatty at Arecibo, Puerto Rico (18°N, 67°W). A sporadic sodium layer is observed and lasted 12 rnminutes.%使用Nd∶ YAG激光器和泵浦染料激光器产生的589 nm激光,与中高层大气中钠原子产生共振,利用直径为1000 mm的望远镜接收钠层的光子回波.研究中国海口市2010年5月4日夜间的中高层大气中钠层密度分布,计算钠层的相对密度和绝对密度,研究钠层密度峰值变化.观测到突发钠层出现在23:52 LT,持续12 min.
