EXPRESSION AND SIGNIFICANCE OF SMAD4 AND p21WAF1 IN ENDOMETRIAL CARCINOMA

Objective: To investigate the expression of Smad4 and p21WAF1 in endometrial carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods: Immunohistochemical method was used to detect Smad4 and p21WAF1 expression in 56 cases of endometrial carcinoma. Results: The positive rate of Smad4 was 80.36% in endometrial carcinoma. The Samd4 expression was significantly correlated with histological grade (P<0.01) and clinical stage (P<0.05). The positive rate of p21WAF1 was 64.28% in endometrial carcinoma. The expression of p21WAF1 was correlated with depth of myometrial invasion (P<0.01). There was no correlation between Smad4 and p21WAF1 expression (P>0.05). Conclusion: Smad4 may play an important role in the tumorigenesis, differentiation and progression of endometrial carcinoma. The expression of p21WAF1 was associated with the tumorigenesis of endometrial carcinoma, but the association between p21WAF1 and differentiation and progression of endometrial carcinomas needs to be further investigated.
