Schwann cell transplantation downregulates P2X3 receptor expression in trigeminal ganglia in rats with trigeminal neuralgia

Schwann cells are generally considered to play an important role in nerve repair and have been previously associated with neuropathic pain promoting the formation of the myelin sheath and the direct regeneration of axons.The efficacy of drug treatments is suboptimal making pain management difficult in patients with trigeminal neuralgia.
