Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene functionthat do not involve changes in the DNA sequence. Epigenetics mostoften denotes changes in a chromosome that affect gene activ-ity and expression, and also can be used to describe any heri-table phenotypic change. Such effects on cellar and physiologicalphenotypic traits may result from external or environmental fac-tors, or be part of normal developmental program.
