In March 2016, the Gambia officially resumed diplomatic relations with China. In December 2017, the Gambian President Barrow visited China for the first time since the restoration of diplomatic relations. He said that the Gambian people attache great importance to developing relations with China and will firmly pursue the one-China policy. Gambia is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in the fields of agriculture, infrastructure construction and tourism, and this visit to China was designed to open a new chapter in the development of relations between the two countries.
