The purpose of a medical monitoring, control, and alarm system is to ensure the safety and efficiency of medical care delivery. It can find immediate applications in the fol owing areas in a hospital: I. local, master, and area alarms of pipelined medical gases and vacuum supply systems, II. operating room control panels, and III. central monitoring and management stations. When set ing up these systems, in addition to regulated protocols, the principles of layered protection structure, early warning, distributed risk, continuous monitoring assurance, and necessary redundancy should be observed.
