The first total synthesis of five linear diterpenes:eleganolone (1), eleganolone acetae (2),elegandiol (3), eleganonal (4) and epoxyeleganlone (5), was achieved from (E,E)-farnesol (6) via 4 to 6 steps. The key step was the alkylation reaction of silyl cyanide with allylic iodide.
