Cardiorenal syndrome has been defined as the interaction between the heart and the kidneys in which the disease state of one organ alters and impairs the function of the other. Clinical manifestations of cardiorenal syndrome are characterized by one or more of three specific features including heart failure with concomitant and significant renal disease, worsening renal function, and diuretic resistance. The pathophysiology of the cardiorenal syndrome is poorly understood. Current treatment of cardiorenal syndrome now includes new a-gents like vasopressin antagonists and adenosin antagonists.
