The existence of endogenetic inhibitory substances in seeds is one of the factors affecting seed germination. This article investigated the inhibitory activity and the location of endogenetic inhibitory substances in seeds of Polygonatum sibiricum based on the seeds' dormant biological characteristics. The result indicated that endogenetic inhibitors not only exist in seed, endosperm and seed coat of Polygonatum sibiricum but also their activity is high. The extracts from three parts of them can significantly inhibit seed germination, bud length (main root length), coleoptile length and root numbers (wheat) of Chinese cabbage and wheat. Inhibitory activity was enhanced with increasing concentration of the crude extracts; The inhibitory activity with different crude extracts shows that crude extracts with methanol was higher than that with distilled water in the same concentrations; Meanwhile , there is a certain difference in the content of endogenetic inhibitory substances in different parts of Polygonatum sibiricum, I. E.
