A method to measure the effective thermal conductivity and spectral emissivity of a porous sphere was developed earlier. It involved measuring pyrometrically the surface temperature of the sphere under transient conditions. Computer software has been developed to "automate" the required calculations and is outlined in this thesis. The development of these computer programs has vastly decreased the amount of time required to translate experimental data into values of thermal conductivity. System dynamics have been applied to the spectral emissivity experimental data to remove the effects of time lags and instrument responses on the zero time of the experiments. This application was an improvement over the previous method since it resulted in a non-ambiguous zero time value. A limited number of measurements of spectral emissivity and thermal conductivity of iron ore pellets has been done and the results are discussed in this thesis.
