The comparison of phase retrieval methods, both theoretical and practical, are outlined in this dissertation.; Comparison is made of several popular methods recently used. It is shown that under specific conditions the well known Gerchberg-Saxton method and the modified version of that of Fienup handle the phase retrieval satisfactorily. I have addressed some of these methods with their improved conditions and investigate the improvement of phase detection. The case of complex images (i.e. an image whose pixels can have arbitrary phases) also has been investigated. Finally, the effect of windowing in the phase retrieval problem has been examined.
