An assessment of business investment opportunities in Vietnam for the food processing industry.

After almost twenty years of forced separation, American businesses are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to do business in Vietnam. The country offers abundant natural resources, cheap labor, a literate work force, and a potential market of more than 70 million consumers.; In 1986, the Vietnamese government began to transform the country from a centralized economy to a market-oriented economy. As part of this transformation, the government has designated food processing and production as a high priority industry for providing the country with a two-fold growth potential--feed the population and generate income from exports.; This study addresses the preinvestment feasibility and potential profitability of investment opportunities for the food processing industry; specifically, rice and fish operations in Vietnam. The need for an assessment of business investment opportunities in the food processing industry in Vietnam was determined through a critical evaluation of the existing literature and numerous personal interviews.
