The purpose of this investigation was to develop methods for designing a partially filled, agitated horizontal reactor for processing of moderately viscous liquids. The horizontal vessel was agitated with an impeller consisting of disc attached to a shaft with blades attached to the discs. Correlations were developed to predict: (1) Impeller power requirement; (2) Angle of liquid surface depression; (3) Interstage backmixing; and (4) Mass transfer coefficient.
