Modular design, self-assembly, host-guest chemistry, and mass spectrometry of titanium(IV), hetero and homo, mixed, neutral-charged, platinum(II) and palladium(II) tetranuclear macrocycles are presented. Cationic titanocene(IV) macrocycles were self-assembled by interaction of titanocene(IV) monochloricle derivatives of pyridine and 4-phenylpyridine with one equivalent of silver triflate. The synthesis and reaction of disubstituted ;The nitrile based platinum(II)-platinum(II) and platinum(II)-palladium(II) macrocycles were found to be very stable in the solid state and in solution. They can be disassembled by addition of 4,4;Fast Atom Bombardment Mass Spectrometry (FABMS) was developed to observe the M-triflate, M-2 triflate species and isotopic distribution patterns of several of the macrocycles.
