摘要

0In 1995/96, an assessment of technical aquaculture training in Ontario was made by video interviewing twelve Sir Sandford Fleming College (SSFC) students and six Rainy Lake Ojibway Education Authority (RLOEA) students. They were asked about their career aspirations, whether they had achieved the learning outcomes of the aquaculture courses and to comment on the courses not directly related to aquaculture.; Ownership of a fish farm business to culture alternate species was the most popular long-term career path for SSFC students. The majority of the RLOEA students sought aquaculture jobs in their communities. All respondents said the training in intensive trout culture was well covered. Need for more hands-on training was mentioned repeatedly for cage culture, broodstock management, disease diagnostics, mechanical skills and the management and culture of cool and warmwater species. The majority of students felt that the general education courses had little or no relevance to the aquaculture training. In general the SSFC students were satisfied with learning resources. The RLOEA students, on the other hand, suggested many improvements for course delivery and location of the learning facility. From the feedback of the students, recommendations were made to increase hands-on training and explain to the students the relevance of the general education courses. The research methods used in this thesis were appropriate for detailed assessment of existing training programs. However, for delivery and assessment of new training partnerships, an adaptive training model is described that, coupled with periodic group interviews, would be more effective.
