摘要

This terminal project in design theory and disability studies crosses academic disciplines, seeking to transform the metaphor and understanding of disability in the practice of environmental design. The primary audience is students and practitioners of landscape architecture. A secondary audience is all those interested in the development of disability culture. Claiming identity with that culture, this work is offered as one of its artifacts. It provides a point of contact for the three fields of the author's life endeavors: education, landscape architecture and disability studies. By showing how the profession of landscape architecture has served society in isolating and removing the disabled body from the landscape, prejudicial design practices might be reduced, and new forms of inclusive design might be fostered.;Phenomenological in approach, this research includes the author's personal experiences of living with disability in the practice of design education, and it reports findings from interviews of designers with disabilities.
