Objectives of this study were (i) to describe the variation in soil properties of three southwestern Minnesota fields, and (ii) to elucidate the spatial relationships between landscape characteristics, soil properties, and grain quality. At the Beauford site, relative elevation, slope gradient, and compound terrain index (CTI) exhibited strong Pearson's correlations with available Bray-P (P), organic carbon, NO3-N levels, soil pH, and silt content in the topsoil. Grain oil and starch content variability were partially explained by variations in the NO3--N and NH4+-N levels. At the Tilney site, soil pH, available potassium (K), available zinc (Zn), organic matter, and P were significantly correlated with each other. Grain protein content was strongly correlated with P, K, Zn, and grain starch content. At the Leinenweber site, P, K, OM, and Zn were moderately to strongly correlated with each other. Protein and starch were negatively correlated with each other.
