摘要

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is one of the major chronic autoimmune diseases in Thailand and is more frequently diagnosed in women than men. To foster health-promoting behaviors (HPBs) in Thai women with SLE, it is necessary to under stand their HPBs, variables influencing the HPBs, and functional relationships among them. Pender's model offers variables affecting HPBs and was used as a conceptual framework for this study. The purposes of the study were to describe the HPBs, to determine relationships of the study variables to the HPBs, and to determine the usefulness of Pender's model in describing the HPBs of the study population.;Subjects were 160 randomly selected Thai women with SLE who were attending rheumatology clinics in three major hospitals in Bangkok, were aged 20 to 60, and who had been diagnosed with SLE for more than 6 months. The subjects completed the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II) and Personal Data Form. These were used to collect the subjects' perceived health status, benefits of action, barriers to action, self-efficacy, age, income, education, and disease duration. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and path analyses.;The results indicated that the Thai women with SLE participated at a moderate level in the overall HPBs and 6 dimensions of HPBs. Women in the sample were most likely to engage in the HPBs related to interpersonal relations and nutrition, while less likely to engage in physical activity. As described by multiple regression, 50.5% of the variance in the HPBs was explained by perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived self-efficacy, perceived health status, income, education, and disease duration. The results from path analyses revealed that Thai women who had higher perceived benefits, better perception of their health, higher education, higher level of self-efficacy, and longer duration since diagnosis were more likely to practice the HPBs. Pender's model was useful in describing the HPBs of Thai women with SLE, even though only some of the direct and indirect hypothesized paths were supported.
