This dissertation explores a business, higher education and public school partnership between the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the Wharton School of Business, and the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University of Pennsylvania. Beginning three years ago in September 2007, the collective task was to create an online video game that conveyed and taught the principles of entrepreneurship. The game, entitled The Johnny Money Online Game (JMOG), was released to the public in the fall of 2008 and is now utilized by almost 150,000 students across the country. Through the lens of educational innovation, this dissertation looks at the innovative process, organizational design and ultimate innovative product created by the JMOG partnership. In doing so, it provides an example framed within innovative literature that illustrates the potential of partnerships to help shape the future of education.
