Semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) are photonic devices that can be used in a variety of functions in optical communications systems. SOAs will be used more and more in integrated photonic circuits or in various configurations leading to the next generation of the optical communications, the "all optical" network.; The development of new photonics devices requires the experimental confirmation of the theoretical results, software simulations and modeling.; This thesis, based on the theoretical demonstration of the laser linewidth broadening in an integrated DFB-SOA laser source, studies the DFB laser linewidth in a DFB-SOA coupled system. We also evaluate various spectral analysis techniques presenting their limitations and applicability. As high-resolution optical frequency methods, the heterodyne and homodyne techniques are performed.; The linewidth of a DFB laser is measured using a homodyne experimental set-up. The linewidth of the same laser is afterwards measured at the output of a DFB-SOA coupled system. Comparing the results, we demonstrate, for the first time, the existence of DFB laser linewidth broadening in the DFB-SOA coupled system, as predicted by the theoretical results obtained at the Optoelectronics Laboratory.
