摘要

The objective of the study is to investigate the process-induced deformation in sandwich composite laminates. 24 factorial experiments were conducted for two replications. The variables were mold radius, fiber form, number of plies, and core thickness. Two-dimensional finite element models were generated for above mentioned combinations. The numerical analysis was carried out using commercial software, COMPRO and the experimental results were compared with numerical predictions to verify the accuracy of prediction. The case studies characterize symmetric stacking of AS4/8552 pre-impregnated carbon/epoxy plies, with Kevlar honeycomb and FM-300 adhesive laid over aluminum molds.;The results recommend further investigation using 3-D models before a definite conclusion could be drawn, to validate the accuracy of prediction of the software. However, an in-depth study of the individual material behavior is needed, including sandwich materials. The important observation made in the experimental study is the anticlastic curvature formed in symmetric lay up, which also needs further investigation of the presence of resin rich surface.
