Impact of the senior program participation on older Chinese immigrants: Older Chinese immigrants in the St. Louis Christian Chinese Community Services Center.

摘要

This research investigated senior center participation for Chinese senior immigrants in St. Louis. The profile of the senior participants, the participation factors, such as motivations and barriers, and the benefits of the participation were explored by analyzing quantitative data collected through an interview survey. The results indicated that the participants were Chinese senior immigrants with high educational attainment and limited English skill; most of whom came to the U.S. after their retirement. The primary purpose for their participation was learning new things, and the senior participants with more frequent program participation had a more grateful attitude toward life and felt more satisfied with their lives.
