摘要

In the thesis lubrication and wear at metal/HDPE contacts was addressed. In particular this type of contact occurs in artificial joint replacements. Demand in these devices increases from year to year and requires higher performance. There is a significant interest in the field due to necessity of design replacements with increased longevity. The major factor limiting performance was recognized to be the wear of HDPE. As the nature of the problem is related to lubrication, optimization of wear in such devices requires an understanding of relationship between lubricant properties, corresponding wear mass loss of plastic and friction coefficient in the system. Theoretical model for simulation of wear was developed based on coupling fluid flow and structure interaction problems. Theoretical results were compared to experimental measurements and some conclusions were made.
