摘要

Current 2-D carbon-carbon composite aeronautical brake materials are sufficient for the task of stopping the commercial aircraft on the runway after landing. However, room for improvement exists in the economics of using the material. The material cost is roughly {dollar}2,000 per pound of material. The material also takes roughly six months to produce in large quantities due to the vast number of steps required to produce material of proper density. This thesis suggests that the addition of another step in the production procedure of this material will increase the wear resistance of the material. A brake material with a higher wear resistance will last longer and has the potential to be more cost effective than the current material used in the market today.
