Optical networks are looked upon as the solution to cater to the high bandwidth demands, as the optical fiber provides a large untapped bandwidth of approximately 24 terahertz (THz). But in today's optical networks, packet processing is still carried out electronically as the optical equivalent of the lookup table does not exist.;A routing technology known as Cartesian routing, overcomes many of the problems associated with hierarchical routing schemes by eliminating the need for routing tables. The simplicity of Cartesian Routing allows it to be implemented with a limited number of logic gates, thereby making it a candidate for true optical routing. In order to satisfy the ever-increasing network demands and to take advantage of the Cartesian Routing methodology, this thesis focuses on the implementation of optical routing in Cartesian Networks.
