摘要

Shear failure in concrete beams is sudden and catastrophic. The main difficulty in predicting the concrete shear contribution is that concrete is a composite, nonhomogeneous, and nonisotropic material that cracks at a low tensile stress. Also, the shear-span-to-depth (a/d) ratio of a beam affects the shear transfer mechanism, which in turn, has a significant influence on the shear capacity. Most of the previous shear studies have focused on non-prestressed concrete members. Research on the effects of prestressing on the shear behaviour is scarce, especially for externally-prestressed concrete beams. To the author's knowledge, the shear behaviour of reinforced-concrete (RC) beams externally prestressed with carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) rods has never been studied before.
