This report is part of the author's works in this postdoctoral period. The safety critical network is an important facility in safety I&C systems for the nuclear powerplants. Currently, the safety of the industrial network is a very hot issue afterIEC61508 published. The features of correctness, integrity, rea(time and determinism of a safety network are technical, but also theoretic. These properties guaranteethe network to defence any single failure. On the other hand, it is the network makesthe I&C system as it should be, and the control facilities share the information. However, other problems will pop up as the network brings all the digital equipmentstogether. Will the control algorithm and the protection logic interact each other?Will any failure propagate along the network to make a serious harm on the I&Csystem? How to design control algorithm or protection logic in such a networkedI&C system? How to design a safety network for the safety I&C system? What isthe right infrastructure of the safety I&C system? All these questions motivate theresearch, which is a necessary composition part to facilitate the development of thesafety critical network. Remainder of this note is organized as following. Chapter 2 concentrates on stability analysis for the switched systems, which facilitates synthesis in the successivechapters. In Chapter 3, we consider networked-control systems with some typicalphenomena. In Chapter 4, a networked-protection system with a so called quantination device is further considered.In the successive chapter, an integrated controland failure propagation problem are considered. Chapter 6 considers design issuesof the safety critical network for the protection systems of the nuclear power plants.
