摘要

Background and objective: The aim of the present study was to determine-using the 10 most recent annual listings of the most beautiful people in people's magazine-whether any measurable esthetic parameter could be extracted from the interrelation among the position of soft tissue points namely Maxillary point, Pronasale and Labrale superius with respect to each other.
Materials and Methods:A total of 80 women, who had been included in the list of People's magazine, 100 most beautiful people during the previous 10 years, were selected from internet database.A modified photogrammetric analysis was performed on the lateral view of each subject to obtain the proportional measurements. The derived measurement was then applied to the lateral photographs of 20 Chinese female patients with pleasing profile. Before and after photographs were then judged by a panel of twenty orthodontists and 60 lay people for any positive improvement in profile.
Results:Results of this study showed that when upper lip is positioned horizontally such that its distance from maxillary point and pronasale is in ratio of 1.18∶1 with a standard deviation of 0.12, leads to a very esthetic profile.
Conclusion: It reveals that prominence of maxillary point should be taken into consideration while contemplating treatment plan to achieve the most desired horizontal upper lip position and thereby establishing an esthetic profile.
