The distribution equilibria of lead, zinc and copper between CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 melts and liquid copper were measured at 1623K under a controlled H_2-CO_2 atmosphere. The distribution ratios were plotted against the oxygen partial pressure, and reasonable oxide forms dissolved in the melts were estimated from the slopes of the plots. The activity coefficients of zinc oxide (ZnO), lead oxide (PbO) and cuprous oxide (CuO_(0.5)) increased with increasing slag basicity, defined by X_(CaO)/X_(SiO_2). The temperature dependence of the activity coefficients was also measured.
