Recycling and soil stabilization has been a preferable method of constructing rural roads inMalaysia for the past 5 years. Many road authorities including Public Works Department ofMalaysia (PWD) and Ministry of Rural Development has used this method for constructingrural roads as it is much simpler in operation, cost effective and offer better options forrural roads development. The stabilization method has venture into another level as moreand more stabilizing agents were introduced as alternative to existing and typicalstabilizing agent. More manufacturers had introduced new types of stabilizing agent andalso some of them are additives to the existing stabilizing agent. These new productsclaimed that their mixes are cost effective, easy to be carry out, and produced moredurable and long lasting performance compared to conventional stabilizing agents. PWDthrough Road Branch had the opportunity to carry out test site to compare theperformance of these new stabilizing agents. The proposal was to put 4 new types ofstabilizing agents at the same road, next section to each other and performance will bemonitor for a period of time. The idea was, using the same road, with same condition,same traffic load, at certain period of time, these products could show some evidence ofperformance within the same conditions. Besides actual performance, construction cost isalso can be evaluate. With this study, PWD had the opportunity to gain more knowledgeon soil stabilizer products on the market and also evaluate the most cost effective of soilstabilizer at this date. Besides that, there will be new variety of pavement design and mixdesign expected to be obtain from this study.
