ACTIONS FOR STRENGTHENNING ROAD SAFETY MANAGEMENT CAPACITY IN MEXICO

This situationplaces Mexico in the seventh place worldwide in traffic accident fatalities, which in turn arethe leading cause of death for the population aged between 5 and 9 years and the secondcause of death for the young population aged between 10 and 29 years. This problemrepresents a challenge that has attracted interest from all levels of government and privateand civil society seeking to gather efforts to reduce traffic accidents and minimize thedamages they cause. That is why in 2011 Mexico joined the call of the United Nations forthe Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.This paper describes the efforts that, in response to the Decade of Action for Road Safety,Mexico has been carrying out for strengthening its road safety management capacity.
