According to the importance of the sanitation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) disposal and energy recovery, incineration power plants have been accepted as an appropriate choice in several countries. Islamic Republic of Iran is also considered efficient use and prolongation of oil and efforts to preserve the earth environment by switching into clean energy source such as biomass energy. In this paper, the characteristic of Tehran’s waste is considered from the quality of chemical and physical compositions and the heat value. Tehran produces about 7000 tons/day of MSW, which is composted and land filled. The moisture of Tehran’s MSW is high, around 60%, and this item decrease the heat value. The Low Heat Value (LHV) of Tehran’s waste is about 5382 kJ/kg. This is a problem to use incineration power plants in Iran. Therefore, we consider two commercial technologies of incineration power plant for Tehran. Two incineration technologies, mass-burn and fluidized bed furnaces, are compared with each other on the base of Tehran’s MSW. The advantages and disadvantages of two technologies are presented and the suitable technology is selected as an appropriate system to produce electricity and district heat.
