Usually it is supposed two stages of procedure of determination of the transferred symbols about sequence transmission of the discrete messages with using error-correcting codes. At the first stage the demodulation are executed and decoding are the second stage of this procedure. In this case "hard" decisions of output of the modulator passed to the decoder input. Other variant is the association of processes of demodulation and decoding action in the uniform process. This process may be realized by some optimal (suboptimal) algorithm. If convolutional codes are used it is possible to apply known algorithms of signal processing in channels with memory, for example, Viterbi algorithm (VA) or Klovsky-Nikolaev algorithm (KNA) (reception "as a whole" with symbol-by-symbol decisionmaking, based on decision-feedback).
