This paper deals with new approaches to the control of technological processes based on supervisory control and data acquisition with the support of human machine interface. Thinks to the very good contacts of the staff of the Department of Control Systems and Instrumentation with industrial practice and system integrators, students are taught the newest trends in indstrial automation, especially in the areas of steelworks, rolling mills, controlled by SCADA/HMI systems. Projects are completed in the area of supervisory control, monitoring, visualization and data acquisition with students' participation. Diploma works are aimed more towards modern technology and data processing, as well as towards the latest knowledge in the area of control. The results of students' competitions witness the highest level of our future graduates. It is a big advantage, that the Department has contacts with real practice, where the former graduates work, From this reason there is a continuous effort to continue in this work and develop education, the possibilities of teaching integrated software products far industrial automation, creating conditions for students' work on concrete modeled tasks, on which they can demonstrate simple principles of control of technological systems, as well as more complex projects, corresponding to the level of students who will be leaving the university soon and will be employed in the area of control.
