This paper introduces the properties of Bispectrum and the 3rd Cumulant, explains the application of the Bispectrum, at last experiments on five gears train to detect the fault of pinion. With the symmetry property on frequency domain, Bispectrum can detect the fault of pinion when the fault (spall or wear) happens above the contact line. When the pinion is damaged severely, its output is asymmetrical. By using the asymmetry property of the 3rd Cumulant, we can detect the fault of the pinion easily. Larger of the value of the 3rd Cumulant, and more severe of the fault of pinion.
