An experimental model and an architecture are introduced for controlling electronic or software musical instruments by means of a two-way communication protocol. The system presented is based on a cybernetic model, where an instrument delivers feedback to received control information. The purpose of the model is to provide a generalized way of simulating real-world musical performances in a network-distributed computer environment. This paper presents the theoretical principles of the model and its implementation issues.
