During the last years the complexity of control systems has increased very much. It is true that advances in microprocessor, computing, networking and the other information technologies have improved capabilities of control systems substantially over this period. However competitive pressures are moving developers toward many difficult issues such as shorter product cycles, lower inventories, higher equipment utilization, and shorter lead times, which condemns them to maintain and improve control systems much more efficiently. Agent technology is expected to give some solutions as to realize flexible control systems and many approaches are tried to apply. This paper focuses on proposing a solution for the flexibility restraint induced from the problems of configuration management. We describes an autonomous mobile agent based approach for automatic configuration management by proposing task behavior model and guest and host model. We also describe the prototyping examples of them to discuss their effectiveness.
