Parametrics: Present and Future

摘要

The present day parametric modeling technology is playing an important role for the efficient change of product shape, for representing some part of design constraints, and for the improvement of re-usability of existing shape models. Though it provides a powerful shape modeling environment, there remains future issues which require further improvement of the technology in order to realize a real design tool. The present paper first reviews current parametric technology from the view points of underlying technology, effective applications and data structure. Then, the author proposes some ideas for making it more design tool oriented.
