We demonstrate the need for end-to-end CSCW-specific QoS management. We identify the different functions needed for efficient QoS management and discuss the issue of QoS mapping among the different layers in a CSCW system. We also discuss a model-based approach to network monitoring and consequently decision making and adaptation. We present a new framework for QoS management and define the various components of the framework and their interactions. The framework is based on the cooperation between the different distributed system components to dynamically support the varying user and group QoS requests and to automatically adapt to QoS violations, while maintaining the initially agreed upon QoS, whenever possible. Advantages of our framework include providing end-to-end support for CSCW-specific QoS management, supporting dynamic QoS requirements and automatic QoS adaptation, and employing multimodal architecture for network monitoring to more accurately depict the system in real-time.
