This talk will present the status on recent developments of new materialsfor the ORR. We will extend the presentation on aspects related on new approacheswhich could be used to develop composite or alloy catalysts. These catalysts should bemore active than any of their individual alloying element . The nature and types of thesecatalysts will be described. The importance of the surface properties and mutualinteractions of the co-catalysts components with the reactants a products will beevaluated. These types of cathodes are interesting because they may contain less non-noblemetal catalysts, and their activities, for the ORR, could be more interesting thanthose of Pt or individual alloying element of the Pt alloy catalysts.
