The Construction of the Three Gorges Project and the Sustainable Development of China' s Economy

China has witnessed rapid economic development in the new century. The Chinese people have made relentless efforts to make its economy develop quickly in order to be away from poverty and backwardness. They also set a clear goal for further development, that is, the per capita GDP reaches 4,000 USD in the middle of this century, making the national GDP 6 trillion USD. Despite the optimistic prospect, we should also be aware of the negative factors hindering China's economic development such as the huge population, low per capita resource, vulnerable environment and frequent natural disasters. Due to over exploration of mountains, hills, plains, rivers and lakes, the environment has been deteriorating, resulting in unbalanced eco-system and more deadly natural disasters. Therefore, in order to realize the sustainable development, we ought to explore and understand the nature all the time and we should improve the eco-system, protect our environment and make effective use of natural resources. Some projects should be launched rationally. The Three Gorges Project in the Yangtze River of China is a typical example.
