Current situation of SO_2 and NOx emissions from China' s Coal -Fired Power Plants was presented. In 2000, the absolute emissions of both SO_2 and NOx were in the first place in the world. This paper described the de-SO_2 technologies, and pointed out that the wet flue gas desulfurization, CFB-FGD, sea water desulfurization and activated carbon/coke absorption are suitable to China conditions: the wet method is the main technology for new large units. And dried de-SO_2 technologies are good for small/ middle units. NID, CFB- FGD and activated coke technologies may be good options for West regions of China since there is lack of water. On the basis of comparison of NOx control processes, it was seen that low NOx combustion have to be popularized in units in near future while flue gas de-NOx technology such SCR and SNCR should be imported, digested and absorbed as well as demonstrated for some of new large power plant units and for the old units' retrofit in order to meet the needs of stringent standards of regulations.
