A char from corncob is activated by microwave heating and conventional heating with carbon dioxide to obtain two activated carbons: sample A and B. By using Quantachrome NOVA Automated Gas Sorption System to measure pore structure parameters, using titration methods proposed by Boehm to analyse surface functional groups, using SEM to observe the surface pore structure, and using desulphurization experimental to evaluate the desulphurization capacity of activated carbons, the results show that microstructure of the activated carbon with microwave heating is different from one with conventional heating and desulphurization capacity of activated carbon with microwave heating is almost the same as one with conventional heating.
